Description

Schildering met een voorstelling van een vorst uit de Malla-dynastie. Vorsten uit de Malla-dynastie beschouwen zichzelf als incarnaties van de hindoe-god Vishnu. Daarom laten ze zich portretteren met een troonhemel bestaande uit omelkaar kronklelende slangen, zoals ook voor Vishnu gebruikelijk is. Het portret avn de Malla vorst Bhupatendra (1695-1721) onderaan een rolschildering in het Nationaal Museum te New Delhi (Zie P. Pal, The Arts of Nepal Pt. II: Painting, Leiden, 1978, pp. 126-129, nr. 151) lijkt een verkleinde versie van deze schildering. Ook het portret van deze vorst, geschilderd op een muur in het paleis van Bhadgaon (Idem, pl. 193) lijkt erg op de onderhavige schildering. (zeer beschadigde toestand).
