painting, h 28.3cm × l 20.5cm × w 9.2cm More details

Guanyin in a cave is often depicted with two acolytes, Shancai (‘Child of Wealth’), a boy with folded hands, and Longnu (‘Dragon Daughter’), a girl with a jewel. This work shows the imaginary place where Guanyin was reputed to live, an island called Potalaka in the South Sea. The figure may have been made for a house altar.
