The Amsterdam born and bred Henriëtte van Cleef married in 1882. The seamstress made this lavish wedding dress for her, which incorporates various techniques. The sleeves are entirely ruffled. The silk along the collar, the front panels, the hem of the skirt and train, and at the cuffs is frayed. The front of the skirt is partly draped, while the train has been ruffled around a central seam and is edged by a folded border.
