Biblis is a character who appears in the Metamorphoses by Roman poet Ovid: her love for her brother remained unrequited and eventually she died of desire and was transformed into a spring. Sculptor Ferdinand Leenhoff taught at Amsterdam’s Rijksacademie.

Description

De naakte vrouwengestalte staat op een ronde, geprofileerde plint op het linkerbeen en met het rechter gebogen. Zij heeft het hoofd iets naar links in de richting van de linkerhand, die een kleed op de rechterschouder vasthoudt, dat langs rug, rechterarm en de hand, die een kruik draagt, tot op de plint neerhangt.
