The top section of this coat is made of tulle, inset with beads. It tapers towards the hem and would have been worn over a straight slim fitting skirt. This meant taking extremely small steps. This thin silhouette was introduced by French fashion designer Paul Poiret, who often experimented with contrasting volumes and proportions of the upper and lower body.
