Tobias and the Angel, Hercules Segers, after Adam Elsheimer, after Hendrick Goudt, c. 1630 - c. 1633

line etching with plate tone and highlights created by crosshatching and stopping-out; printed in olive green on paper; there is a small spot in the trees on the left where the ink failed to stick, h c.202mm × w c.276mm Catalogue entry

On the basis of the watermark in the paper used for this etching, it could be dated to around 1630–1633. It must have been one of Segers’ last prints, and given the representation and its sensitive execution also his most ambitious one.
