Two Statuettes of Padmapani, anonymous, 850 - 930
Padmapani is one of the most important deities of the Buddhist heaven. His attribute is the lotus, a sacred flower in Buddhism, as the Sanskrit name Padmapani means ‘the lotus holder.’ These two figures hold the stems of a lotus in their left hand, while the blooms appear above their left shoulder. The right hand is open to receive the prayers of the devotees.
