Small bronze statuettes were used in ancient Java for private devotion. Buddhists revered the eight-armed bodhisattva Lokeshvara for his infinite compassion and help in time of need. The lord of wealth was venerated both by Hindus (as Kuvera) and by Buddhists (as Jambhala). He is here shown seated above a bag and jars overflowing with jewels.
