Slightly lower in the kimono hierarchy is the tsukesage, a smart garment for occasions such as tea ceremonies. Com-parison with the more formal examples to the left reveals that the less formal the kimono, the more stylised the decoration. The undecorated area in the middle of the kimono accommodates the colourful, wide sash, or obi.

Semi-formele vrouwenkimono (tsukesage), met een versiering op de mouwen en benedenkant van chrysanten. Fijne rode crêpe zijde (kinsha) met een geschilderde yuzen versiering in wit en groen, met detaillering in goudfolie. Voering van creme en rode zijde.
