Summer Dress or Informal Dress, anonymous, c. 1740 - c. 1750

embroidering, l × w More details

The person who wore this informal summer dress may have been Anna of Hannover, the consort of Stadholder William IV. The dress was preserved thanks to the castellan of Dieren Manor, who saved it from a fire. He also kept William III’s housecoat, Japonse rok (in this gallery). The Indian yellow silk of the dress was probably decorated in England with the delicate, Indian-style embroidery.
