This cabinet was once owned by King William II. A French cabinetmaker fitted the piece with hardstone panels inlaid with floral motifs made of costly polished stones. This pietra dura technique dates from at least the 16th century. The many gilt-bronze figures and the cabinet’s robust model, however, are typical of the 19th century.
