Landscape in Brazil, Frans Jansz Post, c. 1665 - c. 1669
Some motifs – for example the six-banded armadillo and the pineapple – recur repeatedly over decades in Post’s paintings. In most cases the animals appear in a peaceful setting, but here the artist opted for more action: in a dramatic way the six-banded Armadillo is devoured by a boa constrictor.
