Every relief by Ad Dekkers is based on two forms, the circle and the square. These two geometrical figures represented for him a universal order of oppositions, which he endeavoured to bring together harmoniously. In this relief, Dekkers created the corner of a square by cutting out a quarter – a segment – of the circle.
